Create Inbound Event

Inbound Events are incoming events that can be used in a journey to react upon. For now, these Inbound Events are linked to the SMS channel only.

Example: A contact sends back a keyword that allows to follow up based on the information returned.

When an incoming keyword is detected, all Inbound Events for all organizations are analyzed, in the order in which they are listed. As a result, if the keyword is used by multiple organizations, this will trigger the corresponding Inbound Event and journey for each one of the organizations.

Note: You need Inbound permission to create the inbound event. Also, to activate Inbound events, reach out to your Marigold contact person to activate the required services.

An Inbound event can be created in two ways:

  • Either from the fly-out menu available from the Data Exchange entry in the left navigation bar. Click the New button and select the type Inbound event from the drop-down list.
  • In the Start page, select New > Inbound event. A wizard guides you through the creation and configuration process.

Perform the following steps:

1. Give a name and description. Ensure they reflect the use of the event as it will be used to display the event in the journey.

2. Select one or more Asset labels from the drop-down. (These labels are configured in the Admin configuration.) Users with the proper Access permissions can also create new labels here by typing the new label value in the field.

3. Press Next. You are taken to the event definition page.

4. Select the channel. For now, only SMS is supported.

5. Set if the search for keywords in the incoming event must be for all keywords or just one

  • Any — Only one of the keywords need to be in the incoming event
  • All — All given keywords need to be in the incoming event

6. Define where to look for the keyword. For now, only the SMS channel is supported, for which you can only select the body of the SMS to look for keywords.

7. Enter one or more keywords to look for in the message.

8. Save your Inbound Event. It is added to the list of Inbound Events on the Start page and will now be available for use in a journey.

Note: Does the order of the Inbound Events matter?
Yes. The order of Inbound Events on the Start page can easily be changed by dragging and dropping an event to the new position. This move function is not available when a result is displayed after a search.
The order of an Inbound Event is important. When there is an incoming keyword, the Inbound Events are executed in the order in which they are placed and as a result the corresponding journey is triggered. If there are several Inbound Events using the same keyword, the first Inbound Event that matches is used.
